2020 has headlined a global need for outstanding digital content and for those talented in digital technologies to enable their colleagues in design and other specialities. To work, create, think, learn and communicate, we’ve needed digital media as never before.

For the past five years, the Archiboo Awards have celebrated architectural creative expression in digital media. From websites to immersive experiences, the Awards honour exceptional storytelling, design and user experience – media that imaginatively communicates and inspires ideas and conversations in the architectural world.

Malcolm Reading will be one of three judges assessing the ‘Best Use of Video’ category at the 2020 Archiboo Awards.

The ‘Best Use of Video’ category aims to find the most compelling and engaging film, one that is inspirational whilst being informative. Entries can be short animations or longer films with a narrative structure, but must have been created in 2019-2020. The films will be considered against four criteria: story, audience engagement, composition and technology.

Malcolm will appraise entries alongside two fellow judges: Alice Doušavá, Director of Zuketa, a production company specialising in documentary films for the design and architecture sector; and Igor Toronyi-Lalic, Arts Editor of The Spectator and Director of the London Contemporary Music Festival.

Malcolm Reading said:

“Having grown up wanting to be a cinematographer, and even premiering at the Edinburgh Film Festival aged eighteen, the ‘Best Use of Video’ is a category close to my heart.

The Archiboo Awards champion innovation, originality and success within digital media - talents that are typically behind-the-scenes within architectural practices, yet which are becoming increasingly vital in our current world. I encourage architects, designers, consultants, technicians and all other creatives to enter.”

The Archiboo Awards showcase a range of skills and professions, with categories including architectural photography, use of social media, best podcast or best written content.

In recognition of the way our working habits have changed over the past four months, Archiboo has also created a new ‘Best Digital Workspace Award’, acknowledging companies that have managed to create a positive and engaged working culture despite current challenges.

To submit an entry for the ‘Best Use of Video’, or any other category, please visit the Archiboo website. The deadline for entries is 8 September 2020, with winners expected to be announced in November.
