As Senior Competition Manager, James is responsible for organising selected MRC competitions. He researches, drafts and edits strategic content including competition briefs and jury reports; manages project timelines, and works with clients and architects to ensure MRC’s competitions run fairly and effectively.
He is adept at anticipating change and level-headed in demanding situations. James is also skilled at overseeing colleagues; briefing and presenting; and organising work across consortium partners and technical specialists on complex projects.
In his four years at MRC, James has worked on a range of international projects including the high-profile open competitions for the UK’s National Memorial to Queen Elizabeth II (London), The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City), and a new visitor centre in Butrint National Park (Albania). He is currently working on two mixed-use urban masterplan competitions involving the analysis of technical and planning material.
A natural communicator with an eye for detail, James ensures clients are at ease. As an experienced traveller, he relishes visiting our competition sites and solving problems face-to-face. He also brings a flair for historical context and an interest in sustainable city planning.
Outside of work he plays and watches football, swims regularly, and enjoys London’s modernist architecture on the way to his local squash courts.
James has a Bachelor’s degree in History and Politics from Balliol College, Oxford.
